First Parish rocks the Housewarming Basket Drive

parish1st

So much good news and joy to report! So let's dive right into it, shall we? One of the standouts this week that deserves special recognition comes from the Service and Outreach Committee and their work on the Lenten Housewarming Basket Drive. During Lent, First Parish is undertaking a Housewarming Basket Drive to benefit the clients of New Life Furniture Bank in Walpole.

The basket drive has been a resounding success thus far, with overwhelming support from our church and community members. Thanks to everyone's love and generosity, we have already collected a substantial amount of essential housewarming items for those in need.

From sponges to scissors and everything in between, each donation symbolizes the compassion and commitment to service within our congregation. As we continue forward, we remain hopeful for ongoing support until the drive concludes on Easter Sunday, March 31st.

The unity and dedication displayed by our church members has been truly inspiring, showcasing the power of coming together for a common cause.

Last Sunday, First Parish youth members helped Pastor JT assemble donations on the altar

The Service and Outreach Committee wanted to share this update with the congregation:

"We are now halfway through our Lenten Housewarming Basket Drive and we just wanted to give you an update of how we are doing.  We are well on our way to putting together 20 baskets!  Our speaker from last Sunday, Amanda Hartley from New Life Furniture Bank, was so pleased about the progress to our goal. As of Monday, March 4, the following donations have been collected:

·         Toilet brushes - 10

·         Toilet bowl cleaner - 18

·         Small laundry detergent - 13

·         Dish soap - 16

·         Hand soap - 16

·         All-purpose cleaner - 11

·         Bathroom cleaner - 12

·         Glass cleaner - 13

·         Sponges - 20

·         Household scissors - 5

·         Microfiber dusting clothes - 4

·         Air fresheners - 3

·         Dustpans and brushes - 3

·         Toilet paper (4 rolls wrapped) - 5 sets

·         Paper towels (2 rolls wrapped) - 8 sets

·         And we have added one new item: disinfecting wipes - 4

And we thank those that have provided us with checks which will allow us to top up the supplies to achieve our goal.  We are still accepting donations.  Just make out a check to First Parish of Westwood and put 'New Life baskets' in the memo."

A heartfelt thank you to the committee members who have worked tirelessly to organize and facilitate this endeavor as well as our congregation for their generosity! Your hard work, kindness and dedication have made a significant difference in the lives of so many, truly embodying the spirit of altruism at First Parish. Let's keep filling up those baskets for New Life Furniture Bank!

The remaining Sundays donation schedule is as follows:

  • Sunday, March 10th: Scissors & microfiber dusting cloths

  • Sunday, March 17th: Air fresheners and dustpans/brushes

  • Sunday, March 24th: Toilet paper (4 rolls, wrapped) and paper towels (2 rolls, wrapped) as well as disinfecting wipes
