On the weekend of October 25, 26, and 27 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), First Parish of Westwood will be hosting an all-church retreat at the church! Our theme will center on a scripture from Ephesians 4:12 “…to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” This will be a retreat in four parts. Eachpart is independent of the others so that you can attend whatever part or parts work for your schedule. Each part is also designed to allow any age or ability to participate.
We’ll kick off the retreat on Friday, October 25th, at 6:30 p.m. with a pizza dinner, followed by a time of storytelling. We’re going to share the stories of our names, first hearing from a few of our church leaders, and then sharing with each other in small groups. We’ll finish the evening with a time of Dessert and Hymns, sharing some sweet treats while singing together some of our old standbys and new favorites.
The second portion of our retreat kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. We’ll spend some time with some greetings and games, while also moving through discussions about our spiritual journeys and our understandings of discipleship and membership before wrapping up around 1:00 p.m. Then, the afternoon is yours to reflect on your experiences of the retreat so far, spend some time with your family, or get some of those errands done.
The third piece of our retreat is worship on Sunday morning, October 27, at our regular 10:00 a.m. time. This will be a special worship service - one we’re calling our Meta Worship Service. This worship service will be a time of learning, sharing information about why we do what we do in worship as we do it, as well as offering a little bit of a behind-the-scenes view of what it takes for worship to come together each Sunday.
The final part of our retreat will be Sunday afternoon. This will be the only part of our retreat that is off-site as we gather at Temple Beth David to join in the Interfaith Walk for Hunger. Let’s put our faith into action! The First Parish team will be joining Temple Beth David and other local faith communities for this annual event. The walk begins at 1:30 with a collective celebration, followed by the walk, and then a reception. You can donate to the team as we raise money to help address hunger in our community, or you can show up for the celebration, or you can participate in the walk, or you can do it all!
In order to plan for the retreat, we invite you to sign up with this short Google form, so we know what to expect.
We hope to see you at as many of the retreat options as you can attend!
