From the Moderator: Church Council Looks Ahead to an Exciting Fall

At last week's Church Council meeting, we had the opportunity to reflect on an active and productive summer while looking ahead with excitement to the many opportunities that await our congregation this fall and beyond. The conversation was filled with gratitude for all that has been accomplished and enthusiasm for the new season of ministry before us.

Council members celebrated the many ways our church remained vibrant throughout the summer. We continued to gather for worship, serve our neighbors through outreach ministries, and strengthen our community through fellowship. We also recognized the tremendous amount of work that has gone into the renovation and refurbishment of our sanctuary, a project that has required the dedication and supervision of our treasurer Doug Hyde, skilled work from our contractors, and volunteer work from the Hills family, Barb Delisle, Nancy Hyde, Kathy Davis, Linda Saripalli, Bob Deininger, Sharon Hobbs, Brian Bayer and others to perform many supporting tasks.

One of the highlights of the meeting was anticipation for our return to regular worship in the sanctuary this coming weekend. We are excited not only to worship again in our renewed space, but also to begin a refreshed approach to worship that will bring new themes, creative elements, and opportunities for engagement while remaining rooted in our traditions.

The Council also reviewed several important events on the horizon. We look forward to participating in Westwood Day and celebrating World Communion Sunday, which will be a special opportunity to invite friends to gather in our renewed sanctuary and share in worship with Christians around the world.

We were also delighted to celebrate the hiring of our new Faith Formation Director, Katherine, whose leadership will help strengthen our ministries with children, youth, and families in the years ahead. Plans are already underway for a busy and engaging year of faith formation, including a confirmation program in the fall.

Looking further ahead, the Council discussed preparations for this year's stewardship campaign and planning for Pastor JT’s upcoming sabbatical. Both efforts are important opportunities to strengthen our congregation and prepare thoughtfully for the future. To support this work, we are seeking one or two members of the congregation who would be willing to help with planning. If you are interested in serving in this capacity for either stewardship or sabbatical planning, please reach out to me. We'd love to have your perspective and participation.
