Capital Campaign Updates

With the winter behind us, we are planning the second phase and looking at the third and last phase of our capital campaign work.  Last year the focus was the exterior of the Meetinghouse and steeple.  This summer we will work the insides of the Meetinghouse.  We are getting updated quotes but are still optimistic that much or even all of this can be accomplished.  Here are the key pieces:

Restore Bell to Operation

Our steeplejack is lined up to gingerly raise the bell off its cradle, rework the cradle, check all mechanisms, re-balance the bell, and put it back in place.  This may even be done before the summer.

Redo Meetinghouse Ceiling

This is a major project as the Church interior first will need scaffolding.  Then a new layer of sheetrock will be installed over the old ceiling, making it nice and smooth.  Then it will be painted.  Unfortunately, no money for a Michelangelo fresco on the ceiling; it will remain an appropriate white.  While at it, additional painting will be done in other parts of the Meetinghouse.  

Replace Meetinghouse Carpeting

Once the messy work of plastering and painting is done, then new carpeting will replace the old.  We’ve worked with a designer to settle on a carpet color, a dark blue, a sample of which has been shown these last Sundays.  Pews will remain the same.  Hard work as pews will need to be shifted, carpet installed, pews moved back and appropriately lined up.

Sound and Video System

We hope to be able to upgrade our sound system, make it more “livestream capable”, and clean-up some wiring.

Our third and final phase will tackle the parsonage electrical system.  We’ve had an electrician in to scope work.  We may take some initial steps to do some upgrades, but the bulk will wait for Pastor JT’s sabbatical time when there can be some parsonage-empty time to do the work.
