Recollections of a Liberator -- By Fred Lea, long time Westwood resident and parishioner of First Parish and witness of the liberation of two Nazi concentration camps in Germany in World War II.

Such horror.  Let us never forget.

Captain Frederick B. Lea was Company Commander, Hqs. & Hqs. Company, 46th Armored Medical Battalion, and Division Medical Supply Officer, Fourth Armored Division, with General Patton's Third Army in the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany.

Fred wrote first hand of what he saw April 4, 1945 when the Fourth Armored Division liberated the Ohrdurf concentration camp -- the first discovery of such horror by the American Army -- and soon thereafter Buchenwald.
