God is still speaking,

Church School

NURSERY:  Infants through two years old are invited to spend the worship hour reading, playing and resting at our parent-run nursery.  Head downstairs in the Parish Hall for this room filled with rocking chairs, music and toys.  Children can be dropped off on your way to worship; we ask that you pick these young ones up directly after the service.

CHURCH SCHOOL:  Children and their families are welcome, valued and loved at First Parish.  Christian education is provided for children three years old through 8th Grade by volunteer team teachers.  In age-appropriate environments directed toward various learning styles, we share the Good News through story, drama, service, prayer, music and craft.  We offer "Godly Play" to children in preschool through Grade 2; this program provides a solid foundation of stories from both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Gospels, using various learning tools and manipulatives to involve the children.  Our goal is to impart to children through words, actions and attitude how people of faith live and work together.  The "Bible Quest" curriculum, which emphasizes learning with all our intelligences, is offered to Grades 3 through 8, encompassing a variety of learning styles.

Children, pre-school and up, begin the morning in worship with their families in the First Parish Meeting House, crossing to the Parish Hall after the Word For All Ages approximately 15 minutes into the service.  Church school ends at 11:20 AM.

COMMUNION CLASSES:  Third graders explore the content and deeper meaning of this symbolic Christian meal.  At the conclusion of the six week series, class members are encourage to share communion with their families on the next communion Sunday.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES Ninth graders confirm the vows made on their behalf at the time of their baptism.  Confirmands gather to learn and discuss the significance of the life of faith.  Delving into scripture, Christian tradition and their own experience, young people gain greater understanding of the faith journey and make individual decisions about the next step on that path.
