For Members

God is still speaking,

Join Us

If you have recently arrived in the area.

If you are not active in any other church.

If you are looking for a community of people who want to worship, grow, and serve

. . . then we invite you to First Parish of Westwood where people like yourself have felt at home for nearly 275 years.

People of many backgrounds and interests have made First Parish a true community church.  Visit on a Sunday morning, or any other time. Call the church office; speak to one of our parishioners.  We look forward to meeting and welcoming you!

Join Us In Worship

We worship each Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, except in the Summer. Our worship includes praise and prayer raised to God in confidence and joy; preaching rooted in the Word of God; sacred music of high quality; dedication of our offerings and our lives; and a monthly celebration of Holy Communion the first Sunday of every month. Services with Holy Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Matrimony all have their places in the total worship of our Parish. Worship is enriched by a volunteer Senior Choir and Junior Choir, choral services in Advent and Lent, and frequent use of instrumentalists and other artists and art forms. Lay members share in the conduct of our worship.

Join Us To Grow

We have a varied and complete program of Christian nurture, since learning and spiritual growth is a life-long matter   There is a Sunday morning Church School for infants through Junior High   An in-depth weekday course of inquiry and instruction for 9th graders prepares them for Confirmation and church membership. Various study and discussion opportunities for adults are offered during the year. There are fellowship groups for both Junior and Senior High youth that meet regularly.  This ministry to our youth includes retreats, learning opportunities and service projects   The Clapboardtree Nursery School is a weekday program for four-year-olds housed in our Parish House but operated independently of the church.

Join Us To Serve

As part of the larger Church, we accept our responsibility to minister with fellow believers in Christ-like service to the world. Our members give time and money to a full range of religious, civic and social programs. We share in the local work of the Westwood Interfaith Council and, through the United Church of Christ, we participate in the humanitarian and spiritual concerns of the larger Church.

Become A Part Of Us

We invite you, your family and friends, to become members of this active fellowship of Christians. A genuine faith commitment is expected, which means participation in the worship and work of the congregation, giving meaningful financial and personal support; sharing in the learning, serving, and governing of the church. These responsibilities and privileges of membership are taken gladly and seriously. The result is a church experience that is fulfilling for all and worthy of God.

Persons join by Re-affirmation of Faith, by Letter of Transfer, or by Baptism and by Affirmation (Confirmation) of Faith. New members are welcomed during a Sunday service, usually twice a year. Orientation gatherings are scheduled, and anyone is welcome to attend.

Orient Yourself
First Parish has four structures located at the crossroads of Nahatan and Clapboardtree Streets.

Worship is conducted in the building known as the Meeting House.  On occasion, this also is the site of concerts or other public events.

Across Nahatan Street is the Parish Hall, the location of the main church office.  During Sundays, this is the site for Church school and for fellowship following worship.  Many church and public activities occur here regularly.  During school days, the Parish Hall first ground floor houses the Clapboardtree Nursery School.  Meeting rooms include "the stage" and the Vogel Room.

Behind the Parish Hall is the small structure known as the Cottage.  Here on Sundays is church school for older children.  Also here are the offices of Rev. David Stryker, Assistant Minister Josh Gray and the Faith Community Nurse Margery Eramo.

To the left of the Meeting House is the Parsonage, currently the home of Assistant Minister Josh Gray.
