Sunday Morning Coffee Instructions

The Spiritual Life & Fellowship Ministry thanks you for hosting Sunday Coffee at First Parish.  Below are all the details you should need.

Things to Know:

·        Be at the Parish Hall about 9:00 AM to do the pre-work.  Return to the Parish Hall a few minutes before the service ends.

·        If you want to bring healthy food to serve then you may, but this is not mandatory.

·        If you do not bring food, then you do not need the card table put up.

·        There is punch, coffee, napkins and cups in the stage cupboard. (Go through the door to the right of the stage.  The cupboard is straight ahead on the back right.

·        Bring at least 1 quart of milk or Half & Half for coffee.

Pre-Work:

  1. Put two tables together and cover with two plastic tablecloths.  They should be in the deacon’s cupboard in the kitchen or in the drawer below.  Put up one card table and cover with one plastic tablecloth.  (There are some more tablecloths in the cupboard on the stage.) If tablecloths are not available, cover the tables with white paper on rolls behind the kitchen door.

  1. Make coffee, following instructions at the coffee station in the Parish Hall.  It takes approximately 20 minutes for the coffee machine to “warm up” before coffee can be brewed (green light on front will go on when it’s ready).  Once ready, each carafe takes approximately 1 minute to brew.  If needed, hot coffee can be stored in thermoses located under the kitchen counter.

  1. Use electric water kettle to heat tea water.  It will turn off automatically and stay hot until needed.

  1. Fill four sugar bowls with sugar; fill one bowl with instant decaf, one bowl with tea bags, and one bowl for “sweet & low”.  Place on serving tables near coffee station – or on a separate card table if there is a lot of food and space is an issue.

  1. Fill four creamers with milk.  Store in refrigerator until just before Coffee Hour.

  1. Fill 3 pitchers half way with ice.  Add 1 packet of lemonade mix (in deacons’ cupboard in kitchen).  Fill with water and store in refrigerator until just before Coffee Hour.

  1. If you bring food, put it on the appropriate plates.

Just Before Coffee Hour Begins:

  1. Place lemonade pitchers on the serving table and fill a few cups.

  1. Put tea kettle on serving table for tea and instant decaf.
  2. Put hot water thermoses, coffee thermoses (if needed) creamers, and any food on the long table.
  3. When people arrive, pour the coffee.

Please take home any left over food or cream.
