Study Questions – Chapter #9

1.      What definition of sin did you grow up with?  What would be your definition of sin today?

2.      Think about the definition of sin in these terms:  separation, self-centeredness, unfaithfulness, infidelity, lack of trust, closed heart, hunger, idolatry, blindness, bondage.  How might these terms affect your personal definition of sin?

3.      If sin is defined as “disobedience” then forgiveness would be the answer to our problem.  What words would you use to describe the solutions to the conditions listed in question #2?

4.      What do you think of when you hear the word “salvation”?

5.      What does the question “Are you saved?” usually mean to the person asking that question?  How do you answer it?

6.      How might Christianity be more effective if it didn’t center around afterlife?

7.      Borg says that salvation is about life with God, life in the presence of God, now and forever.  What do you think of this statement?
