Adult Faith Formation
What
is adult faith formation? Adults today face issues that our
ancestors never confronted, and they often confront those issues without strong
family and parish ties that they once had. The term "adult faith
formation" may seem new. It has come into widespread use recently to
replace the more familiar "adult religious education" for
clarity. Too often the word "education" carries the connotation
of information or expertise. Adult faith formation does educate, but it also
engages the whole person - intellect, passions, and spirit - in a process and
practice of Christian maturity. Through adult faith formation we offer
people opportunities to have serious discussions guided by faith and to pray
together for guidance and wisdom.
Adult Faith Formation at First Parish engages a wide range of topics throughout the year. Beginners, commuters, regulars and the curious will find exciting curriculum choices, such as book groups, roundtable preaching forums, and morning prayer and bible study groups. Current offerings are publicized in the weekly bulletin, in the monthly Spire, and often in local papers.
