PREPARATION FOR COMMUNION
1. Buy 64-oz. Welch's grape juice, 1 mini loaf (Shaw's or Roche Bros, bakery), 1 regular-sized Arnold or Pepperidge Farm white bread. *Submit expenses to office under A/C 442.
2. Communion cup holders hold 40 cups each in 3 rings; fill outer 2 rings on all 6 holders. Plastic communion cups and silver holders are in the lower cabinet. Use the fillers in the upper cabinet to fill the cups 1/2-3/4 full. Wash fillers after use with the bottle brush in drawer. Place filled communion cup holders on silver base and cover the stack with the cross-topped cover in stacks of 3.
3. Cut the crusts off the bread and cut the bread 4 or 5 times in each direction to make uniform sized cubes. Do this at home and bring with you.
Place 8" paper doilies from the drawer onto 6 silver serving plates from the locked cabinet above drawer; key is either on hook in cabinet above or below sink. Plates are in their felt bags in the box in upper cabinet,
4. There are 2 silver bread plate covers in cloth bags in lower cabinet. Cover 2 plates with these for the front of the communion table. Cover the other 4 plates with the linen napkins in the bureau drawer labeled linens. Place all 6 plates on the communion table, 3 on each side. Place a paper doily on the silver bread tray (in bag in box in upper cabinet), place mini loaf on this, and cover with another 1inen napkin.
5. Pour some grape juice into the silver tankard (in cloth bag in upper cabinet). The tankard and mini loaf should be placed on the table in the narthex to be brought in by the deacons.
6. The communion table cloth is in the bureau drawer ("linens"). Leave the runner under the glass on the communion table. Pull out the table and cover with the cloth. Place a chair behind the table. Arrange 3 chairs on either side of the table, matching chair back designs. Put one of the bookshelf tables from the chancel to the right of the pastor's chair for use during communion.
7. Place the empty chalice (in bag in box in upper cabinet) in the center on the back of the table.
8. If preparations are done the day before, cover the bread with plastic wrap (in drawer). Deacons will uncover things in the morning.
NOTE: There is a separate instruction sheet for cleaning up after communion and putting things away properly.
